Sponsor: Abbott Vascular.

Abbott Vascular is one of the world's leading vascular care businesses. Abbott Vascular is uniquely focused on advancing the treatment of vascular disease and improving patient care by combining the latest medical device innovations with world-class pharmaceuticals, investing in research and development and advancing medicine through training and education.

Their broad line of vascular devices–which includes vessel closure, endovascular and coronary technologies–are used to treat vessel diseases of the heart, carotid arteries and peripheral blood vessels. These vessel diseases can lead to heart attack, stroke, critical limb ischemia and other serious vascular conditions.

History
Abbott Vascular's manufacturing facility in Clonmel helps meet worldwide demand for vascular devices.

The original facility was established on 55 acres by Digital Corp in 1980. It consisted of one building of approximately 150,000 square foot of interior space. In June 1995, it was sold to Seagate Technologies and subsequently acquired by Guidant in April 1998.

Abbott acquired the Guidant vascular business in April 2006. In September of that year, Abbott's new 180,000 square foot state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Clonmel was officially opened.

In May 2008 Abbott officially opened its new 70,000-square-foot administration, warehouse and logistics facility. The new building was engineered to incorporate a range of green features designed to minimise impact on the environment.

These included; an underground storm water retention tank to control rain water flow; environmentally friendly cement foundations; energy-efficient glass on the external fabric of the building and an intelligent lighting system internally that will significantly reduce energy usage.
Today Abbott Vascular is a modern 250,000 square foot facility on a 19-acre site. There has been significant investment in the Clonmel facility in the past number of years, making it a centre of excellence in the manufacture of vascular devices.

Abbott Vascular in Clonmel manufactures a broad range of vascular devices including stent delivery systems.
